How I'm Developing Unbreakable Focus

This week I came across a video from a guy called Charlie Morgan.

He was talking about how he developed incredible focus that allowed him to take his consulting business to 7 figures by the time he was 25.

It sounded intriguing, so I watched it.

Ironically, I was watching this video while filming, so it was taking away some amount of my focus on work.

About 45 minutes in I decided to quit for the night to simply listen to what he was saying.

I had two key takeaways that I’ve already implemented:

  1. Eliminating stimulation during the work day as much as possible, and

  2. Designing an environment that’s conducive to focus

For the last 4 days, I’ve worked in complete silence.

No music, no podcasts, nothing to listen to.

I always felt like I needed something in the background to stay productive but having complete silence while deep into work has been very relaxing.

This alone has made me feel a lot more focused.

I’m never spending time thinking about what podcast or song I want to put on next, I’m just working.

It’s simple but has been incredibly powerful for me.

I’ve changed my environment slightly to make it easy to maintain focus.

When reading or journaling, I’ll clear my desk of everything and use a kitchen timer (not my phone) to set a 15-minute timer.

My phone is on a table opposite my desk, and I almost always have Do Not Disturb turned on.

I’ve cleared out my Mac dock to only have 3 apps (chrome, notion, & my calendar), and changed my Chrome window to be a simple landscape photo

These are incredibly simple tweaks that make it far easier to focus on a single task at a time.

For months I’ve told myself I needed to have a 20-minute daily writing block but kept feeling like I had no time.

The last 4 days I’ve sat down each morning to write.

My morning routine right now consists of:

  • journaling for 15 minutes

  • writing for 20 minutes (which can later be turned into content)

  • reading for 15 minutes

In the first hour of my day, I already knocked out the 3 habits I want to be consistent with.

I’ve tried working the moment I wake up (within a few minutes) but for now, this is what I’m sticking with.

4 days aren’t enough time to say that I’m being “consistent”, so I’ll make an update a month or two from now.

Things I’ve been working on

I made a video talking about the best keyboards I’ve used over the last year across a variety of price points.

I’ve made quite a few purchases over the last week to update my YouTube studio so will share those in the next letter.

Next week I’m planning a different video than usual, I’m very interested to see how it’ll perform.

This year I want to lean more into “lifestyle” tech content rather than typical product reviews. This means having more day-in-the-life type videos and showing how tech integrates into my life.

Excited to see how everything pans out.

Have a great week.
