There is a point in every day where I feel a level of uncertainty and fear.

I fear that what I am working on is not the “right” vehicle and that I won’t get to where I want to be going.

I don’t think it’s possible to completely eradicate these feelings, and quite frankly I’d be more concerned if they didn’t exist.

How you overcome them though is through a deep sense of certainty.

I define certainty as having a firm belief that what you are doing will, over an undetermined time horizon, result in your desired outcome.

I was listening to Lex Friedman’s podcast with Jeff Bezos and Bezos had said he only felt about 30% confident Amazon would work, but acted as if he were 100% sure.

That is the mindset that I work towards crafting each day.

Most commonly when I feel a sense of self-doubt, it’s because I’m not doing the thing I said I would be doing.

I believe that the skill of recognizing when you’re slipping is just as crucial as the skill of discipline.

Rather than feeling bad about yourself when you realize how far you’ve fallen, think critically about what caused you to get there.

Then, solve that root problem directly.

I’ve slept in late the past 3 days.

The reason? I’ve gone to bed past 1 AM every night.

The reason? I’ve not been as productive during my work day.

The reason? I’ve not been using my calendar, removing clarity about what needed to be done throughout the day.

For me, there is a direct correlation between how much I use my calendar, and how heavily I stick to my routine.

Tuesday was the last day I blocked out my day, and so Wednesday was the last morning I woke up early, read, and wrote.

I can build certainty by acting on this realization and returning to doing the things I said I would.

The only route to success is taking the action you know is required over an undetermined time horizon.

An Alex Hormozi quote that I think about almost daily is “You can’t lose if you don’t quit”.

Things I’ve been working on

I got rid of the dual monitors at my gaming setup in exchange for a single 4K OLED. I don’t play with friends very often so this makes a lot more sense. I made a video going over this and a few other small changes I made.

Have a great week.

Cole
