Why You’re Always So Distracted

Whenever I find myself getting distracted it’a always because I don’t have a plan.

The opposite of distraction is traction, and traction is when you’re directing your energy towards the plan and goals you’ve outlined for yourself.

Therefore, distraction is spending time and energy doing anything besides what you intended to do.

This is why I’m such an advocate for blocking your entire day, or at least your entire workday within your calendar.

I find that on the days I have set blocks for when I need to complete a certain task the chance it actually gets done is significantly higher.

Pair that with a clear plan and vision for your future, and you’ll be able to make more progress in 3 months than you usually would in a year.

Since setting the intention of uploading one video per week 6 months ago I have not missed an 8 AM upload once.

I’ve gotten distracted and had to pull near all-nighters finishing the edit, but I’ve always got it done.

The only reason I’m able to do that is because I created a plan for myself that’s aligned with where I want to go.

I was visiting my parents the past week and yesterday visited Charlotte.

It’s where I plan to move in about a year, and my plan aligns me to achieve that goal.

Rather than outsourcing your time management to social media or pure luck you’ll get done what you intended, get clear on what you have to do each day.

2 Weeks With the M3 MacBook Air

I’ve been daily driving the base MacBook Air to review for the channel and it’s performed better than I expected. If I upped the RAM I think it could handle my workflow completely.

Things I’ve found interesting

links to valuable stuff I thought was worth sharing

Why You’re Always Distracted - 5 Mistakes Ruining Your Focus - A great video from Ali Abdaal that inspired this letter. He shares some genuinely valuable and actionable advice to improve your focus.

Setapp - The netflix of Mac Apps. They gave me a license for free but I think its worth the $10/mo subscription if you use more than a few of the apps on there. I’ve been testing a lot of new MacOS apps & tools recently from there that have been really helpful.

Textsniper - Super useful tool that lets you take a screenshot and instantly copy all of the text. Great if you’re watching a video or have a PDF without copyable text. It’s available on Setapp or by buying a license directly on their site.

Bellroy Leather S24 Case (affiliate) - I emailed Bellroy last week and they shipped this out to me. Easily the best looking case I’ve seen. Feels and looks great.

Have a great week.

Cole
